Adopting a pet

Adoptable Pets

Our Adoption Process

We believe in finding the perfect match between our animals and their forever homes. Our adoption process is thorough and personalized to ensure the best possible outcome for both the animal and the adopter. Please note you will be asked for your veterinarian's contact information for a reference as well as two personal references with their complete contact information.

Let's get started!

Adoptable Pets

Ready to Adopt?

Owning a pet is a lifetime commitment.

Our adoption program is designed to ensure the placement of our animals into loving, responsible, and permanent homes.

We encourage you to visit our shelter during business hours to meet our dogs but do require a pre-approved application before taking your pet home. If you do not live local to our shelter, we encourage you to fill out an application online before visiting. Processing an application can take 1-2 business days. Adoption eligibility will be determined by what is in the best interest of each individual animal’s circumstance, behavior and health condition. Please note that a denial may be based on an animal’s specific circumstance and not an overall disqualification for adoption. Approved applicants may request a hold on an animals for a short period with a deposit but only when the shelter is not at or near capacity.

Adoption Requirements

• You must be at least 21 years old to adopt a pet.

• No animal will be adopted to persons that have a confirmed history of neglect or abuse of animals, to persons that have a repeat history of losing, giving away, selling, or having animals injured or killed.

• Applicant's current animals must be spayed/neutered and up to date on vaccines and heartworm prevention (dogs).

• Indoor homes are required for most dogs. A fence may be required for certain dogs based on history and behavior. Only dogs that are, in our determination, physically suited for outdoor living will be adopted as outside pets. Those pets must have a fenced or adequately sized enclosure and a doghouse or other suitable shelter.

• Because of the need for socialization, puppies under 6 months of age will not be adopted as outside dogs.

Adopt a senior pet

Senior pets still have lots of love to give and deserve to be loved for the time they have left. They are often overlooked in shelters. We have a special program for adopting senior pets, with reduced adoption fees. If you are interested in a senior pet, please reach out to check availability. If none are currently available, we would love to keep you on record for when they do become available. 785-742-1976 brcohs66434@yahoo.com
